Even if I tried to deny it, I couldn’t say that sports haven’t always been a significant part of my life. I started playing soccer at the age of two, then moved on to gymnastics and dance. However, dance and gymnastics didn’t quite suit me. I needed the intensity and physicality of contact sports. That led me to try basketball and softball, both of which offered new challenges. As I continued to grow, I became involved in track, cross country, and boxing. It wasn’t until my junior year that I discovered flag football, which quickly became a passion.
Over the years, through participating in various sports and being a part of many different teams, I came to understand that sports mean much more to me than just competition or winning games. The teammates I’ve played alongside have become like family. With that in mind, I live by three key rules both on and off the field: the “two-second rule” (when you make a mistake, give yourself two seconds to reflect, then move forward), always strive to make the people around you better, and give your full effort—physically and mentally—at all times.
Pushing teammates to be their best and offering support when they’re struggling is something I take pride in. Whether someone is working on developing a skill or just needs a little extra help, I enjoy stepping in to guide and encourage them. Being a great teammate means more than just playing well, it means showing up for your team like you would for your family.
